Title: LED Bulbs
Post by: Ammy on March 07, 2014, 02:53:46 PM
Has anyone got any experience of replacing Spyder stop and tail bulbs with LED's. Any known problems ?

Tried them a few years ago on my HPE.

They were crap so I wouldn't bother >:(

I think it's an interesting question because let's face it the beta wiring doesn't take loads very kindly, in theory this would make led the perfect solution. Never tried them myself but they work great in OE applications such as the rear lights on my Delta I guess the biggest issue is the variable quality of unbranded Chinese bulbs

Hello from the other side of the pond!  ;D

I replaced the instrument panel lights and the front side marker lights with LEDs, and it made a HUGE difference. The gauges are now actually legible during the night, and the side markers are quite bright (I set them up as turn signals as well).

I guess it's a matter of choice...

LED lighting is making big advances, both in power output and longevity, so what didn't work a year or so ago may now be workable. For side lights/indicators/dash lights I'd say they should work well. Headlights may take longer to reach required standards.

The adoption of Cree chips was the breakthrough.
latest unit use these and are a massive improvement

You must be aware that a lot of them will not position
correctly in older headlights.

Although leds do not get hot the electronics behind them
do, if attempting an upgrade ensure that the new units
have cooling systems attached.

A lot of modern cars will not run these bulbs due to
having  can bus system installed and you will suffer
electronic gremlins.
