Title: VX Head - identification help needed.
Post by: MattNoVAT on August 05, 2013, 02:51:20 PM
I have a head which was sold to me as a VX head and I'm trying to determine if it really is a VX head.  I have spare 1600 and 2000 heads and its definitely different to to all of those.

The cast numbers on the head I need confirmation are as follows:

FF     V.1.
        S62

4371507

Any help is gratefully received   ;D

Hi Matt

If you are stuck, try GC's forum, he is bound to know... May even be in his book, will check later tonight.

Peter

It is in the (old version) book

According to guy 4371507 is 1600 & 2000 131, 1800 & 2000 132 and Monte

The casting number for the VX head is given as 5936188 though that shows as having the smaller (41.8mm) inlets and I'm pretty sure the VX had 43.5mm inlets

I think that's a typo
Anyone out there interested in betas or fiat tc in general should buy the new GC book which he had recently sent for print. Loose leaf format in binder to make it workshop friendly and also to show for updates or notes to be added, secondly it is at a bargain price compared to the last edition check out his forum for details

Been for a rummage - found it and its not VX.

131 - 1585cc
132 - 1756cc
Monte Carlo.

Will check my other cylinder heads - to see if I'm lucky.  Thanks for the tip Peter & Stuart!

His second book corrects the above as being a typo, and should have been the written as the larger valves.

Peter, can you explain?  I'm lost on what the typo is/was.

In the old version the inlet & outlet valve sizes are all the same 41.8mm & 36mm.
Is this corrected in the new version (I thought VX inlets were 43mm)

vx inlets are larger I believe there are also other tc heads with the larger inlets but they may differ internally and not be so advantageous. I have a few vx heads and will take and post a picture of one with the casting numbers if i get time

Don't worry Alan - I have the list of cast numbers now, so that's all I need.

I have had it on order for a while - any idea when it's due to be sent out to us?

I have it on good authority that it was sent for print last week so shouldn't be too long, with his usual perfectionist approach there have been a lot of revisions to it since Guy took the original orders hence the delay.

D'oh - my garage & storage barns are a complete mess!!  Today I found the VX head that I thought I had somewhere.

Silly me, I picked up the wrong head!!  This is what comes from having half a dozen heads in boxes, all wrapped in identical bubble wrap!!
