Title: Misfire
Post by: Ammy on June 08, 2013, 04:37:53 PM
Does anyone have any thoughts on the following. I have had four Beta Berlinas 2000 since 1975 and currently have a 2ltr Spyder.  Every one suffered from the same problem in that ,  after a reasonably long run and being parked up for an hour or so,  when you come to pull away the engine will misfire for  about 500 or 600 yards before settling down and running normally.  All four cars have suffered  , indeed the Spyder does even now,  despite,  changing the fuel pumps,  changing the carbs, and the Spyder has an electric pump.  Am I unique or does anyone else share my experience ?

Hi

Sounds like fuel vaporisation to me, but have not had first hand experience of it, so just my first guess.

As to solving it, well that would be another story I guess. Maybe under bonnet fan?

I had severe fuel vaporisation in my spider and it turned out to be where the fuel lines ran over the exhaust close to the tank. I put some heat reflective tubing over the lines and that cured it.

Yours might not be the same but it's a cheap enough option to try.
