Post by: tvigi on December 02, 2012, 12:36:51 PM
hello,i bought lancia beta engine, problem is that i dont know if its 1600 or 2000.how can i find out?as far as i know they are both completely the same, only difference is camshaft.the owner sayed that its 1800 or 2000,but 1800 was till 1974 i think, and car was allegedly from 1984,and its not i.e or turbo.simple double carburator.any advice?

Post a photo of the engine that will help a little, also look around the engine for identifying marks

If car is 1984 it is most likely that engine is 1.3 or 1.6 given that it is carb but it could be a 2.0 they did do some cars without injection it depends on which market it was supplied to and which car it was in originally

Photo will at least give clues to which series the engine came out of, unless you are sure it was 1984. Engine number is on side of engine with carb (at the front of car ) near oil filter, very well hidden!

I doubt it's an 1800 as they are ultra rare in UK.

1600 or 2000 would be most likely - tell us what numbers are cast into the head between cylinder 2 and 3 that might give us some pointers ;-)

I thought that but didn't like to mention it :-X
Maybe a 'letter to Brezhnev' moment?

The 2 litre block is taller than the others so could give a clue. The engine number is the best bet. Late 2L blocks had no provision for mechanical fuel pump either.
