Title: mixture screw O ring
Post by: thirdbrother3 on October 24, 2012, 10:54:54 AM
Not sure if it’s already bean said elsewhere on here but I had an issue setting up mixture. I started out by finding initial position by screwing the mixture screw all the way in and counting the turns as I did it (this reference position is useful to know if you are making things worse or better).  Without writing a full procedure here (as that has been done elsewhere) , I couldn’t seem to get it running as I would like/ it should. On removing the mixture screw I found two issues. Firstly the mixture screw had been wound all the way in at some point in its history and tightened, squashing the point on the end. Not sure how much of a difference this makes, but it has presumably been made with a point for a reason.  The second issue was that the ‘O’ ring on the end had pretty much disintegrated. This would presumably be allowing air to be drawn in here making fuel delivery erratic.
A ‘better one’ from a spare carb was used while I waited for new needle and o-ring which improved things slightly, but unfortunately I had to head off to Europe in it before it arrived. The spider was sold on my return, so I never got to see how much of a difference a new one would have made.
