Title: Identification of inlet and exhaust cams.
Post by: dougdee123 on October 15, 2012, 09:00:10 PM
This is a slightly academic question because , happily, the engine is all together and is pulling like a train.

At the last rebuild the work was done by a garage that specialised in fiats and alfas and as far as I can see they did a fine job.

How do you tell by inspection which of the cams is the inlet and which the exhaust? And just to pre-empt the obvious - yes I know the one near the front is the inlet.  ;D

Is there actually any difference between them in construction? Or is it possible to re-build incorrectly with them in the opposite locations. Or did that nice Signor Lampredi avoid the issue by having the standard ones identical?

Enquiring minds need to know.

Thanks for any information.
