Title: Dipstick length
Post by: Grundo on June 07, 2012, 09:22:52 PM
A bit of a dumb question but can someone let me know please the length of the dipstick from the top of where it seats in the guide to the low and high points on the dipstick.

I have two engines with two dipsticks, on one the brass end on the flexible pipe has fallen off and my othe one has a dipstick from another car with no markings on it. So neither of these is very useful!

Thanks,
Adam

I'm a little confused by your message.

My several dipsticks don't have flexible bits.

What model are we talking about here? Engine size?

I have an '81 Coupe, normally aspirated, carb, 2.0 L. with the hollow dipstick. If that matches then the distance from the underside of the wide part of the tube seal to the full level mark is 432mm. The normal range is indicated by a flattening of the tube and minimum level is 448mm.

Hope this helps.

I think the info you are after is the measurement from the end of the stick to the full level or from the stopper to the end??

Hello thanks for the reply, they are on a volumex and I'm not sure that either of them are original.

Your reply Doug is helpful, I'm not sure what the wide part of the tube seal is, can I assume that is where the dipstick seats or is it the top lip which the dipstick sits upon?

I've drawn a diagram with what my interpretation is of you measurements, it would be great to have you cast your eye over it.

Thanks,
Adam

That is absolutely correct.

(Nice diagram too!)

For completeness the diameter of the plug is 12mm and is a deformation fit.

Attached are pictures of mine. Slightly curved because the tube has to get round the manifold.
