Title: auto beta to maual conversion
Post by: midlife on April 03, 2012, 06:03:18 PM
hi, has anyone done or know if it is possible to make an auto gearbox beta into a manual? i presume that a unbolt of the subframe from a donor manual car and swap subframe ,gearbox, linkage, driveshafts and interior gearbox tunnel cover bits should do it, is there anything else to do?. it is a 1981 carb model so has not to much electrics on it, any help, feed back would be great>   best regards jim.

Hi Jim,

You'll need to change the pedal box assembly also as you'll be short of a clutch pedal !

Add a clutch master cylinder, pipework and electrics for the low fluid warning level because I don't think an Auto would have had one.

There are bound to be a few more bits that you'll need to swap over as you go along.  I'm not aware of anyone having done this before but I'd be interested in listening to anyone who has undertaken this kind of conversion.

I think Matt is thinking Integrale rather than Beta  - pedal box, cable, clutch gearbox and gearlinkage inc lever should be enough.

Your right Stuart, I was actually thinking about Hawks and 164 V6's which I was frequently asked about converting an auto engine to a manual.

Apologies to Jim for confusing him.

I'm getting old !

I did it on an hpe a few years ago, relatively easy,
worse bit was changing the pedal box.
I seem to remember having to add flywheel aswell.
