Title: non starting problem Post by: rodney3010 on May 14, 2011, 09:20:18 PM I was hoping somebody might have an idea what I should look at next. Story so far - Spider 2000 not run for a few months. Has a new battery, leads, plugs, cap, rotor arm and coil. Now getting nice big spark at plug. However, still no sigh nof starting.
I don't seem to be getting a lot of fuel into the carb. The fuel filter (new - fitted right way round), doesn't get full. Would I be right in thinking might be fuel pump problem? Any suggestions of what to look at next would be much appreciated. Title: Re: non starting problem Post by: MattNoVAT on May 14, 2011, 09:54:46 PM To test : Have you tried dropping a bit of fuel straight down the carb to see if there is any sign of the engine trying to fire up, if it does try to start then it's most likely the fuel pump is faulty.

If it turns out the pump is at fault then PM me and I'll get one off ebay for you and send it up to you. Title: Re: non starting problem Post by: JoeBeta on May 16, 2011, 10:52:20 AM Have you tried taking the fuel pipe off just before the filter and turning it over to see if petrol pumps out??
Be careful of Fuel Pumps on Ebay... I bought one and the top of the pump needs to be cut away to fit under the manifold (on my 1.6 coupe anyway) I bought one which wouldn't tuck in under the manifold??? Joe Title: Re: non starting problem Post by: rossocorsa on May 16, 2011, 10:40:19 PM well I spent an hour going through my parts stash and getting oil on my trousers (= trouble from swmbo) to only to find that I don't seem to have those fuel pumps any more, it did remind me of what I do have I am constantly forgetting what parts I have and which parts I still need to trawl eBay for
