Title: Gear and Difs RATIO
Post by: archigraphe on January 23, 2013, 07:31:21 PM
HI,

The 1300 gearbox I would fit on my car comme from a Serie 2 1300 Beta.

The difs ratio from this car is different of the first serie.

So, I only know the ratio from the first serie coupé they are :

2000 : 14/53 : 3.78
1800 : 14/55 : 3.92
1600 : 14/57 : 4.07
1300 : 13/58 : 4.46

Could you confirm this ratios for late Beta :

2000ie  : 14/53 : 3.78
2000vx : 19/62 : 3.26
TREVI VX : 19/65 : 3.42

The ratio seems different on some model,
like the first gear on some beta, or the fifth gear between the trevi and coupé VX.

I'm looking for a short box on the first 4 gear and like an overdrive on the 5th for the highway ralliement...

The beta instruction book from 1983 says:
1300-   14/59 (4,214)
1600-   14/55 (3,929)
2000IE- 18/65 (3,611)
VX-      19/62  (3,263)

whereas gearbox ratios are:
1st: 3,5
2nd: 2,235
3rd: 1,522
4th: 1,152
5th: 0,925
R:    3,071

Ok ,

so the diffs are very different between first serie and others....

Have you the 83 instruction book, Can you partage it?

Or it is downloadable?

Refreshing a bit the topic I would like to ask you Guys if there is a method of distinguishing the diff ratios without dismantling the gearbox? Any markings on the housing etc? As far as I remember my fiat 131 supermirafiori has painted diff ratio on its housing.

Humm..

Some Box have the diffs engraved on it
Some haven't....

So, maybe with the production number.

Have you already replaced your gearbox? I just realised that mine probably comes from a 1.6 model. I made some calculations and compared with satnav readings. The results are I reach only 100km/h at 3300rpm at 5th gear :( (while speedo shows only about 70 - speedo driven shaft came from 2.0ie version) The proper speed at the proper diff should be 111km/h.
I have another gearbox definitely from 2.0ie model, but before I installed the wrong one I had no idea about it...
Is any way to swap just the differenial without removing the whole gearbox/drivetrain? I know that the Haynes says no way...

You can remove both gearbox shafts in-situ,as I have done to replace bearings,
but you can't remove the diff this way. The whole thing has to come out.
