Summary: 2007 marked the 35th anniversary of the launch of the Beta model !

NEC Classic Car Show 9th-11th November 2007

Beta Boyz organised a Beta display to go alongside the Lancia Motor Club and Montecarlo Consortium stands at this year's NEC Classic Car Show, Birmingham, UK. Each year we try to display different cars and this year we featured Tony Field's Trevi saloon, Andrew Napier's Spyder, Steve Thompson's Coupe VX and James Weddell's HPE VX. The cars attracted lots of attention and positive comments.

"Lancia in the Piazza" - Covent Garden Sunday 16th September

The Lancia Motor Club organised a fantastic event in London in September. Congratulations go to David Bieda and the organising committee. Over 100 Lancias were parked up around the historic square providing a major tourist attraction. The cars generated lots of interest from a wider general public who wouldn't necessarily visit car shows.

The event was given an official seal of approval by the Lord Mayor of Westminster who inspected all the cars parked around the square, along with London's official Town Crier. The Italian Embassy was also represented and Lancia Turin's own European Sales Manager also attended the event.

Following a request from David Bieda and Paul Baker, Beta Boyz forum members assisted by supplying a number of the Betas that were present on the day.

Auto Italia - Italian Car Day, Stanford Hall, Leics - Sunday 19th August 2007

On Sunday 19th August Beta Boyz attended the Auto Italia Italian Car Day at Stanford Hall, Leicestershire. Our optimistic plan was to get 35 Betas there to mark the 35th anniversary of the 1972 launch of the first Beta.

Well, the usual British weather conspired against us (Summer! What Summer?), so we didn't get to 35 cars, but nonetheless we still got the best turn-out of Betas we have seen in years. Check out Tony's photos on  http://www.flickr.com/photos/tonysphotos/sets/72157601570685084/ .

Cars kept arriving throughout the day, and based on photos we counted at least 20 Betas. That's not counting the MonteCarlos (Are MonteCarlos Betas? Well that depends on who you are talking to, and we don't have time for that debate here!).

Although overcast, the rain held off until about 4pm, so there was plenty of time to catch up with friends new and old. The great thing was that we were joined by several Betas that we previously hadn't seen. It's always good to welcome newcomers.

Towards the end of the day the Maserati Club held its concours awards followed by the Auto Italia magazine awards. The John Whalley sponsored "Best Lancia" trophy went to John's Beta 2000 Coupe. It was appropriate to mark the day with a Beta winning best Lancia!

Lancia London to Brighton September 2007

A definite date for the diary. Club Lancia Sport and JP Lihou organise this annual run to Brighton which is growing in popularity. Primarily a Delta Integrale event, but open to all Lancias. It was great to see a few more Betas this year. Let's get even more there in 2008!

Santa Pod Retro Show - July 2007

Santa Pod's drag strip was the attraction for a huge selection of retro cars of all makes back in July. A day of noise, smells of petrol and burnt clutch and dodgy burgers...This is an event that attracts all sorts of classic car fans and raises Lancia's profile with people who don't visit the usual Italian brand events. We made sure Lancia was present. Out on the dragstrip, Jerry won best in class (<1600cc) with his Fulvia. Nice one!

Lancia Motor Club UK - AGM feature 2007

The LMC brought some very special cars over from Lancia in Italy for this year's AGM.

Beta feature and photo shoot for Classic & Sports Car magazine March 2007

Not strictly speaking an event, but a great success for raising the profile of the Beta in a prestige magazine.
