Title: Yellow Plastics - Cam Cover & Radiator Fan
Post by: SanRemo78 on February 18, 2023, 11:57:56 AM
Did a quick search but didn't find anything!

Does anyone have any tips on how to clean the cam covers and radiator fans? The ones on my restoration project are pretty grubby. In the past (30 plus years ago) I've used Gunk or similar to remove oil deposits but that still left stains, I don't want to use anything abrasive either for obvious reasons.

Has anyone got any tips on how you get them looking as new?

Cheers
Guy

Hi Guy

The real answer here is take them off the car and take them to a Vapour blaster. They will come back looking like new. You do however want to wash them twice in parts washing fluid then once with brake cleaner before use.
I have a great relationship with Chingford Metal finishing in Maidenhead who do this along with Gold Passivate plating for that original look.

Thanks Eric - daft of me not to have thought of that - The place that welded up the (as yet unsuccessful) bonnet pin removal tool has one and I need to go back to get the tool strengthened....

Having tested the fan motor I now need to remove the fan tomorrow!
