Title: New water rails on Facebook
Post by: Nigel on January 04, 2024, 07:03:28 PM
I've just seen on 'Lancia Beta Coupe' Facebook group that Irma FA is
advertising new top and bottom water rails at 200 euro Top and 180 euro Bottom.

I think it's the entity that did the same a while back.

Hi,

I got one of these from him back in 2019.
If I remember correctly it did take some time for mine to arrive and it was a little tight to install but that's sort of to be expected.

But yeah if anyone is interested at least you know he is legit.

Thanks George.
I'm glad to hear from someone who's actually used one of these.
Out of interest, was it top or bottom, or both?

Regards
Nigel

Hi Nigel,

I just got the top rail as I had a decent bottom.

Think I recall having to sand down the metal face that goes into the top of the Head because it was pushing the rubber gasket out.

I bought a set for my volumex and I am assuming it's the same seller but I don't recall 100%. They were an issue to fit because of variations from earlier engines. The top rail was generally fine but didn't allow enough clearance for the oblong VX/IE airbox. The bottom rail just didn't fit as it was too short. Both items were replaced, the top rail fitted ok and the bottom one fitted JUST after an amount of persuasion. We came to the conclusion that it's possible that late spec bottom rails might be fractionally longer and possibly the VX type water pump might be deeper (I've not got around to measuring). The rails are completely hand made so have some variations from standard, some of the outlets are slightly oversized so that the rubber pipes are a tight ,but not impossible, fit. There is no grove for an O ring on the pump to pipe joint and I think that I may have used silicone sealant rather than a rubber gasket on the top pipe joint ( not sure on that one my memory isn't that good these days). They are good though but I've only run the engine outside of the car not in real driving. If you order bear in mind that the outlets vary depending on the model, for example VX, and I think other very late cars  but not sure so check yours, bottom pipe corner has a single outlet and then a separate Y shaped adaptor rather than two outlets. Anyway hopefully they've been a good buy, the original mild steel ones are getting on their last legs now.

Useful info there Alan, thanks. Especially on the bottom rail, sizing and the angle of
the water pump end is critical to a good fit.

George, that's a good looking engine bay you have there.
Hoping we'll see your car sometime....

Regards both,

Nigel
