While fitting a cambelt to a 2l fl spider, the spring on the tension bearing back plate jumped out of it's locating hole. Has anyone got a simple method of replacing it against it own tension. Looking at it it could be a skinner knuckle job.

I've loosened it off slightly then used a bar or large screwdriver to prise the spring into the hole and then re-tighten.

If you can then clamp a pair of mole grips onto it and use them. Saving that a very long blade screwdriver may help.

It's a little bit awkward with the engine in place though as you noted.

Thanks lads for your suggestions, I will try them over the week end.
Sorry I will not be at the 40th in Norfolk, even though I have said I will try and get there but I have just had an eye operation and walking around with a patch over one eye.
Hope you all enjoy yourselves, Norfolk is a beautiful place. The weather forecast is supposed to be fantastic.
Give my regards to Amanda for organising the event.

Regards
Brian
