Title: New Beta Coupe owner.
Post by: gengis on December 10, 2012, 11:21:48 PM
Hi Guys,

I'm now the proud owner of (Forum member Tony B's car).  I've been a long term Fiat/Lancia fan for over twenty years.  Having had 131s, 132, and 1.6 + 2.0 HPE's and my current car a Fiat 124 Spider CSO, which I restored back in 2003.  I look forward to talking to you on the forum.

Cheers,

John.

Welcome John, while we are sad that Tony B left the fold, we are equally pleased that the you have joined in the merriment on the Beta forum!

A nice mixture of cars you've had and your Fiat 124 Spider CSO looks beautiful in black... very classy indeed  ;D

Dear John,
welcome to the Forum. You've come to the right place for advise and spares for all things Beta! I love your 124 Spyder, we have a D series example in similar condition, in a very dark blue. It looks just like the shade on your car, tell me is it blue or black. Ours is often confused for black!
Ours has had the heavy D series bumpers removed and the lighter chrome B series ones fitted in it's place, along with chrome wipers and other detailing. We finished it off with a bespoke walnut dash and matching wheel and gear knob. (It draws many an admiring glance, as I am sure yours does also.)
What you might find eventually as you get deeper into Beta ownership, (and I would love to know), is that whenever you are struggling with problem solving or maintenance issues with your Beta is that you will say:
"Why on earth did Lancia have to try to be so darn clever and over complicate things, why can't the brakes, steering, electricals or fuel system be as simple as a Fiat!)
Apart from that I am sure you will LOVE it! (We certainly love our HPE VX).
best,
Chas and Anne. :)

Thanks for the welcome...

Chas, the Spider is black, but my preferred colour would be Midnight Blue with CD30 alloys.  Have done some sublte mods...
Strada 130 engine.
Fiat 131s Gearbox.
L-Jetronic with HPE ECU and AFM (not looking for catalyst)
Uprated radiator and heater matrix.
30% stiffer springs and Koni dampers.
Upgraded to Marea front discs..Vented 257mm.

That's the beauty of an inherently good initial design, we can raid the Fiat/Lancia parts bin.  As for the Lancia I do have a cold start problem (which I tried to post a question about last night, but had login probs?..also listed on Lancisti)  I should get to the bottom of this problem, as it's pretty much the same set up on the Spider, although the layout of components will insure a half pint of knuckle blood spilt on every fixing session.

On my last Lancia (2.0 HPE) I spent a lot of time chasing an electrical fault.  When heater fan was switched on, the engine would die...eventually traced to a faulty fan speed resistor and ignition amplifier that were mouted on the same plate...talk about open heart surgery..geez.
